Big 12 Championship Football Trip
Friday Nov. 30th my wife, myself and our youngest son boarded a flight for San Antonio. Our destination the Big 12 conference championship football game between our Oklahoma Sooners and the Missouri Tigers. We arrived about mid afternoon to warm weather and overcast skies. Very pleasant for the time of year. Upon checking into our hotel, we received our game tickets and credentials from our trip sponsor. We set out for the Riverwalk area of town, if you have never been to San Antonio to the Riverwalk you need to do your self a favor and do so. This is our 3rd or 4th trip here but the 1st time for this time of year. Wow what a treat the trees and walkways were all decked out in their Christmas lights and the glow and twinkle that they gave off on the water was magnificent. There were thousands of OU fans and the excitement was in the air. This sure had the ingredients for a exciting weekend. We ate at a great Mexican restaurant right on the water and took in the great atmosphere. When we finished eating we walked over a couple blocks to the Alamo and revisited this area. This is a must see for all that go to San Antonio. We returned to the hotel to catch a little rest as Saturday was going to be a big day. Saturday we got up to drizzly conditions, however the weather man promised warmer weather as the day went on. We boarded a bus that our trip sponsor provided to take us down on the Riverwalk at a Saloon to a great Boomer Bash party and I must say this was a great 2 hours of fun. They had a Southwest spread of food and desserts that was fantastic. They had 2 guest speakers Leroy Selmon and Joe Washington and what great words they had to say about their time spent at the University of Oklahoma. The cheerleaders as well as some of the band members joined us for a while and played among other things Boomer Sooner. After the bash was over they shuffled us over to the Alamo Dome which happens to be a very nice place. Once inside we located our seats and shortly the game got under way. The 1st half was close and tense and ended in a tie. The 2nd half the OU Sooners came out and really took control of the ball game and pulled away for a great win and the conference championship. We headed back to the hotel after the game to try and catch a quick bit of sleep prior to having to be at the airport at 4:30 AM to catch our flight home. A fast and exciting weekend yes but we would not want it either way. Next up the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale Arizona. Go Sooners!
